Well hello! For those of you that are new to my profile and my work I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself 💁🏼
My name is Bailey Barnes and I am a professional singer, voice teacher and coach for singers. When I say “coach for singers” what I mean is I help singers in many more ways than just teaching vocal and performing technique - I help them define their singing career vision, manage their time and goals so they are ever moving in the direction of that vision, and work through self doubt and anxiety so they can create and share with courage and confidence.
My goal is to get as many people out in the world singing, performing and making an impact with their unique creative gifts as possible.
We live in tumultuous times, and we are waking up to a great reckoning. The world needs each of our individual creative contributions - needs each of us to show up to help solve problems - now more than ever to really get to the bottom of climate change, systemic oppression, and corruption now more than ever. I’m here to draw out the genius that lives in the voices of dreaming singers everywhere, so they can have their message heard and live out their deepest, truest most important calling.
A few things about me ~
I live in Durango, CO and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Durango is a small town, and because of this and my calling to sing classical music and jazz I have had to create my own opportunities to sing the music I want to sing in my little mountain town. My motto is “mountain life, big city career.”
I live with my fiancé, Evan, who is also a professional musician, and our fur babies, Alma and Bea, in our tiny home on the Animas River.
I taught music in k-12 public schools for 7 years before going all in with my singing, voice teaching and coaching businesses. I have been a small business owner for three years and I love it! I’m also honored to be an adjunct professor of voice at Fort Lewis College.
I spent a year as the program director for a non profit music school in Durango, Stillwater Music. It was hard work and I learned so much about running an organization, coaching teachers and musicians, budgeting, marketing and leadership.
I think it’s more important to be barefoot in the dirt than have pretty feet :) I spend every morning on a sandy beach by the river, meditating, planning my day and considering the problems that my clients and I face and what I can do to solve those problems.
I am a practicing Buddhist, and I lead meditation groups for millennials in my local sangha, the Durango Dharma Center.
I am passionate about social justice and I’m grateful and humbled to be a thought leader, coach and business owner during this new civil rights movement that we are living in.
I love singing opera, jazz, art song and musical theater. I love Donizetti, Mozart, Esperanza Spalding, and Gretchen Parlato. I’m With Her is my favorite band.
I experience depression and anxiety, sometimes severely. Therapy and taking care of my mental health are important parts of my journey.
San Francisco and Buenos Aires are my favorite cities in the world.
I traveled around South America for 9 months, by myself, in my early twenties. After that I spent a year working for a travel company and worked in Montana, Costa Rica, South Carolina and Hawaii. I also spent two summers singing with an opera company in Germany, touring around Europe. I love to travel and it has been a formative part of my life.
I LOVE kids and leaving elementary music education was one of the hardest choices I have ever made.
It is truly my honor and privilege to do work that encourages more people to make more music. Enrollment is open for the 2020 summer session of my signature coaching program, Align. We begin July 6th and if you’re interested, reach out to me here or find me on IG or Facebook and we will schedule a free coaching call and get to work right away… then we can decide if Align is the right fit for you right now.
Create and share with courage <3
